Sri Lanka has slashed an import excise duty on vehicles by 50 percent. The slash in vehicle import duty is expected to especially help lift car import numbers to the country as cars are taxed on average 300% upon import.
Unfortunately some of the bigger car sales in Colombo do the price controlling of the vehicles and not allowing Sri Lankan people to get the maximum benefit of the duty reduction.

Yesterday Government announce that quikly the duty of BN vehicles will further reduced to enable people to buy BN vehicles as used Car import Mafia is garbing all benifits given to people reducing duty. I check net for Japan used cars as saw Vits 2007/08 cars were only $5500 -6500 2 month before. After Govt reduced duty all car models beyond 2007 has increased by over 2000-3000 dollers by this Mafia. I totaly agree with you. But the SL duty price is calculated by the valuvation given by the purticular company.
ex: For Honda - Stafford Motors For Nissan - United Motors For Toyota - Toyta Lanka
No matter what the FOB value from the Japan for a purticular car. They only (SL Customs) calculate the duty for the FOB given by above companies. They are fixed and vary on the YOM, Model and the engine capacity which I posted earlier.
Thay why I had to pay SLR 1,470,845/- for the Honda Fit GE6.
