Sri Lanka has slashed an import excise duty on vehicles by 50 percent. The slash in vehicle import duty is expected to especially help lift car import numbers to the country as cars are taxed on average 300% upon import.
Unfortunately some of the bigger car sales in Colombo do the price controlling of the vehicles and not allowing Sri Lankan people to get the maximum benefit of the duty reduction.

SL Vehicle Import Duty 1000CC to 1500CC Engine Capacity
Below are some government duty figures for most common vehicles (1000CC to 1500CC) import to Sri Lanka.

1. Regarding Honda fit There is another model Fit(2nd Gen) - GE6, but it has been in production since 2007 September(If I am not wrong) what will it's duty be? is it going to be much more than 1.1mil of the GD1?
2. Regarding other vehicles' duty Proton Gen2? Honda Stream? my friends are looking for these vehicles, hope you could help them too.
It’s a pleasure to let you all know about the SL vehicle import duties as most of the car sale persons playing with the innocent customer these days. They keep very high margins of profit. Best thing is to import the vehicle under your name.
This will reduce the vehicle cost of 5 lacks of minimum.
As you mentioned, the Honda Fit GE6 is the latest model of Honda Fit GD1 and manufactured after 2007 Sep.
It’s a really good car compared with GD1. Go for it. Great car…
The duty for GE6 is about SLR 1.4M to 1.475M depending on the extras.
You can bring down a very good condition GE6 (Auction Grade 4 – 4.5) about SLR 2.7M to 2.9M max.
what about 2007 honda fit(LA-GD1)?? are these figures from the agents??

ReplyDeleteThanks for the inquiry. Honda FIT GD1’s duty is about SLR 1075000 to 1100000 for last lap (3 to 3 ½ years). These figures are 100% accurate.

1. Can you explain the benefits of green permit?
Other than the ability to bring older vehicles, is there any other benefits?
can a person who has been abroad on a student visa for almost 5 years and has done a part time job get a green permit t send a vehicle?
2. why don't you give an update on the European vehicles' duty rates, such as VW Passat, VW bora, Chevrolet lassetti, Peugeot 307/407 etc...
3. what are the documents needed to clear a vehicle from the customs in Sri Lanka?
